Day 4 N. Gorica - Kras - Skocjan Caves - Portoroz
Today you will experience the beauty and fruits of the Karst. The Karst region is a small limestone plateau stretching south of Nova Gorica to the Skocjan Caves in the Southeast. The Karst is where the sharp north-westerly winds called burja and warm southerly winds from the sea shape this country of rock and evergreens. At our lunch stop in a local country inn, you will try the fruits of the karst - ruby-red wine called Teran and air-dried ham called prsut with its distinctive taste. For many travellers, our visit to the Skocjan Caves this afternoon will be a highlight of their trip to Slovenia. UNESCO included the caves and surrounding nature reserve in its list of the World’s Natural Heritage.Dinner and overnight in Portoroz, the well-known Slovenian sea resort. The Port of Roses is a solid strip of hotels, restaurants, shops, discos and sandy beaches. (B, L, D,)
